Top Ten Tuesday: Historical settings

Woha... This weeks challenge over at Broke and the Bookish is not one of the easy ones xD
It is a bout the past and the furture - and a good mix of what I already have read, and what I dream about. Quite an open task, in other words ;)

1. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is, and will continue to be a big favorite of mine. The setting is in a not too far away future - but there is a good, dystopian atmosphere around it all. Love the book. Spent way to much money on the different editions of it aswell.. It is just awesome!

2. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I loved this book, and I really want to read a bit more fiction like this from the 50s and 60s from the south!

3. A game of thrones by George R. R. Martin. This one was quite high up on my TBR list for a while, but after the TV series, and how popular it become, I found it a bit harder to get myself to read it for some reason...

4. Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Loved this universe. I should get around to read the rest of the series.

5. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Same as above. I should get around to read this one soon!

6. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I am actually not sure why I gave this book a 4 star in the first place, as it is quite faded from my memory. But I loved the setting, and the idea behind the whole story.

7. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Ohh.. the 20s. I really should not have to say more!

8. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. Loved the different view of WW2!

9. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. It really makes me appreciate living in the time that I do..

10. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak... Yeah, more books from the way - but this one is a bit high up on my TBR list!

Top Ten Tuesday: Freebie week!

So.. A freebie! Did I mention I hate those? I love getting a specific idea to work with, but using my head coming up with something new? Ugh..

Anyhow - I decided to make a list over the books on my TBR list that have been there for the longest and owning them... This can be fun ;) (oh and really.. looking at the list there is 72 books there! omg... I gotta get around to read them soon..)

It should be noted that I have only marked books as read AFTER I started to use Goodreads - so there is a big possibility that I have read the books at some point - just not in the last 5 years at least.

1. If you could see me now by Cecelia Ahern. I gotta admit I cannot even remember having this book - but knowing myself right, I must have picked it up on the trainstation or something like that waiting on  the train (and then ended up watching a movie or just sleeping instead). This one have been on my list since 2013, so about the time I added my books into Goodreads by the look of it...

2. Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris. Pretty sure I stole this book from an ex. Also from 2013!

3. Beskytter by Christian W. Jensen.. Won it in a raffle orso (again back in 2013). I feel pretty guilty not coming around to have read this one yet..

4. Fifty Shades Freed by E. L. James. ACUTALLY, I have started this one a few times. Just having a hard time enjoying it.

5. Death in holy orders P.D. James. I actually had to go find the book to remember which one it was. Impuslebying one again. Pretty sure we are talking about the trainstation again ;)

6. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding. Pretty sure I did read it at one point. Kinda waiting on getting around to read the first in the series again before this one.

7. Nobels testamente by Liza Marklund. Gonna read this one soon! Just started on the series again!

8. Flimmer by Anne and Even Holt. First in a series and stuff. I should read this one

9. The Firework-Maker's Daughter by Philip Pullman. I can't remember having this one. At all. No idea. I should look for it.

10. Maddy goes to Hollywood by Maureen Martella. Feelgood deluxe. Loved it when I read it 10 years ago orso.

Top Ten Books I've Recently Added To My TBR

As I finally got back into writing some more on this blog, I also enjoyed starting up with the Top Ten Tuesdays posts again. I love the hosts, I love clicking in on other peoples blog and read their entries - and getting pleacently (is that a word?) when I find people with the same books as I have on my own list - or was thinking about putting up on my list!

This weeks challenge is, as the title says, what I have recently added to my TBR list. Here is Goodreads just awesome, I love that page. Though. It is not good for my TBR list. It grows WAY to fast. At a point I tried to keep it under 1000 books... Yes... Well.. That didn't happen! Worst part is that I have stopped added all the books in series etc aswell, and it doesn't really seem to be helping!

Looking at the last 10 added to my list, I can see that I was looking for new science fiction books that can relate somehow to be beloved Ready Player One. No luck fo far though! Anyhow, my list, going from the 10th last - and ending up with the (currently) last book on my list:

1. Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds. It got good ratings, looks like a fine plot etc etc.

2. Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge

3. The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon

4. The Prefect by Alastair Reynolds. Oh, second time for the writer!

5. Blackout by Connie Willis.

6. Thirteen by Richard K. Morgan

7. Gridlinked by Neal Asher

8. Singularity Sky by Charles Stross. I like his last name!

9. The Dreaming Void by Peter F. Hamilton

10. Gummi Tarzan by Ole Lund Kirkegaard. Finally something completely different to the others on the list. Most likely gonna read this one with my little girl - loving the fact that she is finally starting to get intersted in book and reading - though still struggling a bit with the reading part herself. But, we are getting there!

Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn't

Oh... This one... There was SO much I planned on reading in 2015 - but overall I didn't really end up reading that much - specially in the fall. Hit a dead end, and had to discover my joy of reading again!
Luckly I managed to do so - but it did take some time!

Anyhow, the new releases in 2015 I meant to read, but never got around to do must be:

1. Mere blod (Blood on snow, 2) by Jo Nesbø... Read the first one as soon as it got out, but never got around to get the 2nd one. And as I refuse to read Jo Nesbø in anything other than norwegian, the original language... Yea... I should see if someone I know have bought it!

2. Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, 2) by Marissa Meyer. To be honest I completely forgot about it. Gotta check if the library got it!

3. Geminiderne (Spektrum, 2) by Nanna Foss. Loved the 1st one in the series. Currently waiting on the library edition to read, as my budget is quite low these days.. (Living of oatmeal works like a wonder, right?:p)

4. Crimson Shore (Pendergast 15) by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Again.. Low on money these days - and hard to get such a new (not danish, even worse) book from the library

5. Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike 3) by Robert Galbraith/JK Rowling. Same reasons as above. Low on money and not a danish book = hard to get from the library!

6. Efter dig (Me before you 2) by Jojo Moyes. Stepmother got it for christmas - so just waiting on her to finish it as we speak!

7. You're never weird on the internet (almost) by Felicia Day. I can pick it up from the library next week! Love it when they buy in the books I request!

8. Go set a watchman (To kill a mockingbird 2) by Harper Lee. I was really excited by this one. Read so many poor reviews. Not sure if I want to read it anymore.

9. Grey (Fifty shades of grey 4) by EL James. Well... Yes. I never got that far. Maybe this year

10. So you've been publicly shamed by Jon Ronsom. Again - low budget and not a danish book. Planned as an audiobook in the nearest future though!

Top Ten Of Your Auto-buy Authors

So... writers that I auto-buy, no matter what? I am not the biggest on buying books, buuut there are a few writers anyway that come to my mind!

1. Jo Nesbø Childrens, grownup.. Doesn't matter. I'll read it, and most likely buy it aswell!

2. Karin Slaughter

3. Lars Kepler. Mainly because I never manager to wait the time untill the book is free in the library.

4. Jussi Adler-Olsen is also a good candidate

5. It is not unlikely that Jennifer Weiner is coming home with me either.

6. Camilla Läckberg

7. Liza Marklund

8. Sophie Kinsella

9. Marian Keyes

10. Tove Jansson The Moomins <3

Top Ten Authors I've Read The Most Books From

This weeks topic over at Broke and the Bookish - and again - the title pretty much sums it up. While writing this list, I took Goodread to use, as there is no way I remember what else I have been reading while growing up. Because of this, the list is most likely not 100% accurate, as I know i read ALOT of series while younger, and guessing they would use more space on the list if I actually had remember it all.
But - here we goes:

1. Margit Sandemo with 47 books. No suprises there, as I have read (one) of her big, big, big series: Sagaen om isfolket. And since there are 47 books in there...

2. Henning Mankell with 25 books. Again, mainly from a series here, Wallander, with 11 (10,5) books. I've also explored some of the other stuff he have been writing - all from the childrens books and other stories. Wallander is my favorite though!

3. And here is Jakob Martin Strid with 24. ALOT of childrens books here. And some comics. He writes AWESOME books for kids!

4. Patricia Cornwell with 20 - and first non-scandinavian on the list! Kay Scarpetta all the way here (and looking at the list now, I can see there have been some new releases since last time I looked!)

5. Karin Slaughter with 18 - and my first favorite on the list! LOVE her. Specially the GC/Will Trent series, but the other stuff is not bad either.

6. Jo Nesbø with 17 books - and the 2nd norwegian on the list. Love him. Period. Books for kids? Crime? Plain awesomeness!

7. Douglas Preston with 14. I am specially fond of the Pendergast-series, but his stand-alone stuff is not bad either.

8. Elsebeth Egholm with 13 books read. I mainly like her crimeseries with Dicte, but that is just me. This one will get upped in just a little bit, as she just released a book here the 1st. Must read!

9. J.K. Rowling with 11. Harry Potter is surely the winner here, but I do like her crime books aswell. The other one. Not so much.

10. Ooh - this one seems to be a shared. With 10 books each I can mention writers such as: Maj Sjöwall with the Martin Beck series, Camilla Läckberg with her books about Patrik Hedström, Jussi Adler-Olsen with his series about Departement Q, but also his stand-alone books, Helene Tursten and her books about Inspector Huss and last, but not least Marian Keyes and her deepish, chicklit books. Alot of swedes it seems!

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Fairytale Retellings I've Read/Want To Read

This is this weeks topic from Broke and the Bookish. The title just sums itself up quite clear, doesn't it?
I love fairytales, but I must admit that lately it have been more of the Disney-versions of them, than anything else. I do have quite a knowledge about the norwegian folk-tales, but after reading and spending my head around, thinking about this one - I think it is clear, at least for me, that I should read more of those. Specially the classic Grimm ones, and maybe some more H.C. Andersen aswell, living in Denmark and all.
These books are my bid for top ten - and I chose to bundle Marissa Meyers books all together. If I hadn't, her books would have filled half my list, as they are some of my favorite, retelling, books.

1. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. She re-tells alot of the old, classic, fairytales in a world set in a dystopian future, with cyborgs and stuff. I havn't read all of the series yet, but I am well on my way!

2. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan (and the rest of the series) have been on my TBR-list for a while. It is based on greek mythology, as far as I can see.

3. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Been wanting to read this book since I saw the movie!

4. Loved the Cinderella-retelling shown in Sarah J. Maas' novel Throne of Glass

5. I WANT to read this Peter Pan retell: Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

6. Den Lilla Møghætte og Pulven (and the rest of the books in the same series by Rune T. Kidde. The language is awesome, and it have made my little girl asking to read alot more books lately.

7. I have to mention another childrens book, namely Frozen. Yes, it is a movie. Yes, this is a book based on the movie. But I still love the retelling of the original, quite dark, fairytale.

8. Confessions of an ugly stepsister by Gregory Maguire

9. A court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas looks awesome!

10. Dorothy must die by Danielle Page

Ten Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters

Oooh... This one is quite hard actually! Coming to think about it, alot of the books I do read have some of it, I just don't really think about it that much! But, than again, there is alot of different ways to define what diversity really is.. And I'll use it quite wide, and than just see what books that pops into my head. But, I will use We Need Diverse Books' defintion, just to start somewhere: "We recognize all diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and ethnic, cultural and religious minorities".
It is the diversity that makes the world!

(Edit: wow - this one was hard:o - and I still don't think I understood it quite:p) Basically... It is not something I look after when I read books!

1. The first one that pops up into my head is Lola and the boy next door by Stephanie Perkins. Sure - the diversity is not the main theme, but i LOVED how she put the in the 2 dads like it was totally normal (as it should be, but that is an entirely different discussion).

2. Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This weird, loving, disabled little boy, just trying to be "normal"(whatever that is). Loved it!

3. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Depression is a way to silent disease!

4. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. A Cyborg-Cinderella<3 Cinder and her "herd" of misfits are going to save the world!

5. Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Indias diverse culture. It is a different than "normal" culture at least! Oh - and the fact that he practices like three different religions. Yey.

6. Me before you by Jojo Moyes. LOVED this book! Will has paraplegia and have no wish to live.

7. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Racism at its "best".

8. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I REALLY love this book, so any chance to include it;) Mm... Socioeconomic status it is!

9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. (And the rest of the series). Misunderstood genious!

10. Legend by Marie Lu. Well.. I start to run out of books! But with an asian in the book, that is not something I ususally reads at least!

Top Ten Tuesday: Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession

Ok - I can say already that most of these books are picked up at the library - but that is not necessarly a bad thing! Though - the school books are not that much fun to look at, so I'll skip those - even if they are some of the latest. It is limited how much fun it is to read a list where 8 out of 10 books are schoolrelated due to the fact that I am writing an exam over the summer..
After making the list, I can see that there is ALOT of reading challenge book on the list. But that is what happends when I am moving, and trying to cut down on the library/buying when I am doing so. The reservation list on my local library is growing!

1. Shopaholic på bryllusrejse by Sophie Kinsella. Picked up a free, danish edition at itunes the other day. Looks nice!

2. Harry Potter: Film Wizardry by Brian Sibley. Picked it up at the library the other day, and it went STRAIGHT to my wish/need-to-buy list. SO awesome!

3. Jeg har et tæppe i tusind farver by Anne B. Ragde. Also a book from the library. The frontpage looked nice! I'm a sucker for colorful covers!

4. Double Crossed by Ally Carter. Picked it up as a free book after reading about it on the blog Skrivepulten.

5. Den sønderjyske farm by Erling Jepsen. Library book picked up after a challenge. Have had it as an ebook for a while, but seems I have some trouble just getting on and reading it!

6. Isla and the happily ever after by Stephanie Perkins. Library book and I am REALLY looking forward to this one!

7. Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt by Michael Lewis. Another library and challenge book. Trying to get better at reading more variated books.

8. Løvetæmmeren by Camilla Läckberg. I've read all of her series, and have been on the waiting list on the library for this one for quite a while. But then I found out a good friend had bought it, and already finished it, so borrowed her copy instead.

9. Sushi for begyndere by Marian Keyes. Picked it up at the trash. (yes, I am one of those. You do NOT throw books out!). Found out I had it though, so gonna deliver it to the welfare shop when I get home from vacation. Throwing out a good and fine book - pffs!

10. Personskade by Elsebeth Egholm. Had to "save" this one from the trash aswell!

Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2015

This weeks theme for Top Ten Tuesday (by The Broke and the Bookish) is my toplist for 2015. This one is not the hardest one - as I feel I've already read quite a few good books this year, but we will see how that one turns out;) I've read a few good books in the same series - and I have chosen to merge them together if not one of them are "popping out" as outstanding compared to the rest of them.

1. Mig før dig (Me before you) by Jojo Moyes. People have been suggesting this one for me for quite a while - and after reading it, I really regret I didn't read it sooner. Jojo is amazing! Though, I was fooled a bit by the cover - it is NOT some fluffy love-chicklit-story I thought it would be.

2. Jonas er udvalgt (The Giver) by Lois Lowry. Again, not what I actually excepted. It was ALOT deeper. Thought it would be quite an easier, happier read. Just. Loved it.

3. Snatched by Karin Slaughter. Ok - this is just a short story, but. I love Slaughter and I really love Will Trent. More of that please!

4. White Fire by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Been reading their series about Pendergast for quite a while, and though the series have books in both ranges of the ratingscale - this one is clearly one of their best (at least of the newer books)

5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Loved the first 2, 3rd not that much. Not that way I wanted it to end (though.. I cannot tell you how I wanted it to end instead. Just.. not like this!). I should watch those movies, people say they are ok!

6. Leoniderne by Nanna Foss. I won this book in a contest, and I must admit it sat on my shelves for a while before I picked it up. What a mistake that was! New, danish author, new series. I need the next!

7. Læserne i Broken Wheel anbefaler (The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommends) by Katarina Bivald. Only picked it up because of all the blogposts I read about it at the time. I don't regret that. A book about books and about loving books. Awesome!

8. Anna and the french kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Not the deepest nor the most original book I've read - it is exactly what it say it is - but that is not necesarly a bad thing. I really ended up with a crush on St. Clair (though, I've claimed I never want a short nor foreing boyfriend ever again. Hrms)

9. The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling). She COULD write crime/mystery. Liked the 2nd book in the series more than the first one - though that one wasn't bad either.

10. Skammerens datter (The Shamer's Daughter) by Lene Kaaberbøl. Apperently I HAD to read this if I was going to be a "real" danish reader. But it wasn't bad. I should finish this series.

Top Ten Tuesday - top ten on the summer tbr list!

1. Lola and the boy next door af Stephanie Perkins har stået på listen siden jeg læste første bog i serien, og det passer da udmærket at bogen lige er kommet ud på dansk!

2. Weird things customers say in bookshops af Jen Campbel, er en bog jeg har fået "udfordret" i en challenge. Og en bog om en bog. Med humor. What's not to like?

3. Fuck, en lækker røv af Susanne Staun. Dansk retskrivning - kan da bare blive bedre;o

4. The Giver af Lois Lowry - den har stået i reserveringskø på biblioteket siden før jul, og fin den endelig, så! Det er nok på tide!

5. P.S. I love you af Cecelia Ahern. Nok en challenge bog - hvor det går ud på at læse bogen, og så se filmen. Og har haft planer om at se filmen et stykke tid, så hvorfor ikke så dem sammen?

6. The murder complex af Lindsay Cummings. Fik faktisk biblioteket til at købe den ind, så den skal også læses!

7. Last chance to see af Douglas Adams. Skulle være en god nature-history books.

8. Den sygeste løgnehistorie af Neil Gaiman. Den så bare sød ud, så den kom også med hjem fra biblioteket!

9. The tales of Beedle the Bard af JK Rowling. Savner Harry Poter universet - og fandt ud jeg ikke havde læst denne!

10. Dødsenglen af Sara Blædel plus eventuelt resten af serien. Hyggekrimi er hellere ikke nødvendigvis galt;o

tirsdag den 26. maj 2015

Top Ten Tuesday - beach edition

The Broke and the Bookish poster regelmæssig en top ti liste over diverse temaer, og denne uge er temaet "Beach".

6. The Sisterhood of the traveling pants af Ann Brashares

7. The Undomestic Goddess af Sophie Kinsella

8. Swapping Lives af Jane Green

9. Annika Bengtzon-serien af Liza Marklund

10. Sushi for beginners af Marian Keyes

Såeh.. Svensk krimi, chicklit og favorittbogen er gengangere!
